Cinelerra workshop - *video editing under Linux

Linux is good at many things, but most of the media activistic and other videos are still made under commercial programs. Cinelerra is out to change that!

Free (GPL), non-linear, multitrack video and audio editor, with elaborate compositing functionality under Linux.

The workshop will take approx 2-3 hours. If people will have machines with cinelerra installed then they will work on their own, if not, it will be more of a ex catedra tutorial. There will be a pre-workshop preaparation, so we get cinelerra running on all the peoples machines. If you are planning to participate, please download and try to install cinelerra by yourself, take a look at the manual for help on installing.

The basic editing workflow in cinelerra will be demonstrated. If people are interested we could create a THK-video-diary

Exercises and massages for media(h)activists

Media(h)activists often spend a lot of time behind a computer. This can put a lot of strain on hands, forearms, shoulders and neck. Especially during actions and dispatch situations it is difficult to get a decently set up working post and the pressure of deadlines and the risk of a raid cause stress that also affects the body.

Hence the compilation of a series of exercises and massages that can help you relax and bring relief during little breaks in between or at the end of a long day. Read More

LiVES workshop
>
>

LiVES workshop

LiVES is the Free, Open source video editor and VJ tool. It is designed to be easy to use, yet powerful and flexible. Stability is a must, since it is also used by the author as a VJ tool for perfomances.

There are no difficult installation issues as LiVES uses commonly available tools with the option to use plugins to expand its abilities. LiVES will run under Linux, BSD and OpenMosix? , with an OSX Fink version coming soon.

LiVES is released under the GPL and is currently sponsored by the LinuxFund.

For more information, see: http://lives.sourceforge.net

Here is what I would like:

the workshop should be on 27th June as I will be arriving late in Pula. Total duration of workshop will be 4 hours. For this I will require a beamer for the first and last hours.

1st hour : intro to LiVES, intro to frame and clip editing, overview of the many features in LiVES

- needs beamer and amp

hours 2-3 : video editing/VJ workshop - I can help people with working on their own material and giving advice - recommend that people bring faster laptops if they have them

hour 4 : technical demonstration of the new RFX rendered effect plugins system in LiVES. Create your own video effects with variable parameters and run them on clips. Use any command on the system as an effect. This will be the first public demonstration of this revolutionary new technology !

- needs beamer and amp again

Community wireless workshop

I will not do the "introduction to wireless mesh networking" again, i guess most of you heard that one somewhere before. But i would like to have a discussion about practical solutions in community wireless networking. Preferably hands-on, handling things like different routing protocols (with actually test-driving them at the location) and how to solve issues like handing out ip numbers and making sure all hosts can find the nearest nameserver without hassle. I would like to do this together with others, so contact me at jaap AT squat.net if you want to be involved in this.

Computing and social struggles (to be confirmed)
by darkveggy & CNT-SII
Though the computer industry results in the same inequalities and dynamics of oppression as those of other work cultures, there's little or no tradition of social struggle and unionism in this field. Why, how to confront that? Hopefully, some people from the "computer industry section" of the CNT anarchist union will share their experience about the struggle for social justice within those mostly apolitical structures.

FreedomNET by tetsuo

Hierarchical p2p Streaming, pure p2p filesharing and textchat. Client joining FNet is allowed to - communicate on public or private textual spaces - share files or download an unique data-flow.

This project started as i tried to implement a hybrid net, for distributing multimedia (or no-multimedia) contents and saving server's net-band. Obviously, this is not a 'normal' filesharing net.

FreeJ workshop by Jaromil and Kysucix

FreeJ is being developed in the hope to provide the free software community with a free, modular and highly customizable application for realtime video manipulation and multimedia event handling.

In its recent developments FreeJ sports support for scriptability, 0ldsch00l console interface (S-Lang), joystick/midi/gtk2 interfaces, support for playing multilayered videos, images, particle generators and text on accellerated screen surfaces, chaining effects on each layer.

FreeJ is the underlying technology used for the THK intro (released soonish!) and it lets you have some fun with video employing only 100% GNU GPL free and open source software - despite the monopoly of proprietary technologies in this field until now.

the workshop will consist in a overview of the ways to interact with FreeJ as a video mixer and liveset tool, followed by a deeper look inside its scriptable object oriented rendering engine.

this software is included in dyne:bolic and Debian distributions and it compiles and runs on Mac OSX 10.3

| estimated duration: 2 hours | a projector would be needed (gosh!) | it will be not too nerdish technical and everybody is welcome to join.
